Motorolla Droid Coming Soon

Here is a look at some info I found about the new Motorola Droid coming soon to Verizon:

Youtube video from verizon:
Just saw this video of the new Motorola Droid coming November 6th to Verizon Wireless.

Engadget page on the Droid:
Tons of hands on information as well as video and photos about this new phone.

From what I can tell so far here are some of the high points:
- 5 Megapixel camera with dual LED flash
- Touchscreen with onscreen keyboard AND full qwerty slide out keyboard
- Runs the Google powered Android operating system which is constantly being improved because it is open source. This phone has the newest 2.0 version of the OS
- Tons of apps from the Android marketplace.
- Wi-fi enabled for web browsing
- 3G web browsing on Verizon's network which if their commercials can be believed is a much larger 3G coverage area than AT&T
- Web browser that looks to be pretty speedy and full featured.
- Much more features check out the sites listed above

Having not personally played with this device this is all second hand info but from what I can tell this looks to be a pretty sweet phone and I look forward to checking it out in stores when it arrives. I expect this will require a data plan to be used even though it has wi-fi. So expect to pay an extra $30 per month or so for data assuming they deem this a smart-phone device which I expect they will. I am excited and so far I am buying the hype from Verizon and I would love to have a Droid of my very own.

Canon Loyalty Program

Get your camera up to date for less!!!

I love my canon cameras, but like all things tech, they get behind the times quickly. Ebay is an option of course or craigs list but the older the camera the less likely you will get enough for your camera to really make a dent in the cost of a new camera. Canon offers a little known solution to keep you buying their brand that allows you to save a TON of money on a newer camera. You can call them up and they will offer you a choice of three refurbished newer model cameras to chose from at a VERY reduced rate compared to the new price of these cameras. This program is mainly designed for broken cameras or those that have a known issue with that model. However if your camera is older you should be able to let them upgrade it, or as I have heard of some people doing, buy a cheap as -is broken camera off ebay for next to nothing and then send that in for the upgrade.  In that sense it is an even better deal if you trade a broken camera for a nicer newer one that actually works. I have an older camera  that has started to have issues focusing . I am planning to trade up pretty soon. The options I was given are listed below along with some links to help you all find out more about each camera should you decide to upgrade for yourself  The camera options do change sometimes and also if you are trading a different type of camera the options are different as well. These were the options for trading my S2 IS:

1. SD 890IS - $149   Retails for at least $250 or more new Amazon.com has this camera in the $269-449 Range with all its sellers.
Info on this camera:  1. Imaging resource 2.Amazon

2. SX10 IS - $199 - Retail on this camera on  is in the $359-399 range on Amazon new. More information on this camera can be found the following places.
         1. Amazon
         2. Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Review | Digital Camera Resource Page
         3. Imaging Resource

3. Digital Rebel XS kit (includes 18-55mm IS lens) - $359  -Amazon price is at the time of this writing $499 for black and for some reason the silver version is more at $529. More info on this camera:
           1. Dpreview (awesome in depth review but note that this camera is called the 1000d in England where the reviewer is)
           2. Imaging Resource

The cameras from the upgrade program are said to be refurbished and only carry a 90 day warranty as opposed to the standard year for a new camera. However according this thread http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/849344 on Fatwallet about the upgrade program many people are reporting that the cameras are overstock returns from stores that have never been used. So its a pretty amazing deal. Here are the details of what you have to do to take advantage of this deal:
Call Canon Support at:
866-443-8002
Press Option 2 for camera upgrades and then let the agent know you are interested in the upgrade program. They might transfer you to support to diagnose whatever problems your camera is having and also you might even be able to get your camera repaired for free if there is a known flaw with your camera. I hope this has been helpful. Enjoy your upgrading!!

Welcome

Welcome to Gadgets and Gear!!!
What I hope to accomplish with this blog is to find and discuss some of the cool gadgets that I find out there on the web from various sources. Some of my favorite types of things to look at in the gadget world include new cell phones, particularly smart-phones, computers, and probably number one would be digital cameras. I am a huge photography nut and love reading about new digital camera technology and new cameras coming out. I hope to one day be able to offer reviews of new gadgets and gear on here as well but that will take some time I am sure so I will have to live vicariously through other reviewers from other larger sites. Something I also want to do with this blog is to have this site be understandable to those that are not as technology minded as I am to try and alleviate some of the technological terror that so many suffer from. So that is it in a nutshell. Hopefully soon I won't just be talking to myself.  Thanks for stopping by!
